Year 5

Welcome back! We hope you had a fantastic half-term break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the exciting term ahead. As we step into Spring Two, we have lots of engaging topics and enriching activities planned to inspire curiosity and foster learning. Here's a snapshot of what you can look forward to in each subject:

English: The Magical World of Leon and the Place Between

This half term, we will be exploring the enchanting world of Leon and the Place Between by Angela McAllister. Through this captivating story, pupils will dive into magical adventures, focusing on descriptive writing, character development, and narrative structure. Expect a journey full of imagination and creative expression!

Maths: Multiplying Fractions, Area, and Perimeter

In Maths, we will tackle multiplying fractions, making sense of how numbers work beyond whole numbers. We will also deepen our understanding of geometry by investigating area and perimeter, solving real-life problems and designing shapes with precision.

Geography: Exploring Brazil

Get ready to journey to Brazil! We will learn about the diverse landscapes, vibrant culture, and significant landmarks of this fascinating country. Pupils will investigate the Amazon Rainforest and discover Brazil's role in global environmental and cultural conversations.

RE: What Would Jesus Do?

In Religious Education, we will explore the question What would Jesus do? through stories from the Bible and discussions about how Jesus' teachings can be applied to modern life. We aim to encourage thoughtful reflections and meaningful discussions.

Science: Properties of Materials

This term in Science, pupils will become young investigators, exploring the properties of different materials. Through hands-on experiments, they will test materials' flexibility, strength, conductivity, and more, discovering how these properties influence their uses in everyday life.

Forest School

Forest School will be taking place every Friday afternoon, and we’re really looking forward to the children enjoying regular outdoor learning experiences. During Forest School sessions, the children may take part in activities such as building dens, creating natural art, exploring wildlife, learning how to safely build and manage small fires, and even doing some simple outdoor cooking.

Forest School encourages teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, and confidence, all while developing a strong connection with nature.

As we will be outdoors in all weathers, please ensure your child comes to school with a change of clothes suitable for Forest School. This should include old, comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy, as well as appropriate footwear (such as wellies or sturdy shoes).

PE will take place on Tuesdays and some children will continue with their swimming lessons as they did last half term.

Thank you for your support, we can’t wait to get started!
