Welcome to Year 5 September 2020
Welcome to the Year 5 class page!
We’re looking forward to another busy and fun-filled term in Year 5. Just like last term, Mrs Flint will teach the class on Mondays and Tuesdays and Miss Jarman will be teaching on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Miss Dyson will continue to support our learning throughout the week.
Our topic work this half term will involve a journey back in time to explore The Shang Dynasty. We’ll discover what life was like under Shang rule in Ancient China and we’ll brush up on our historical skills of enquiry as we consider what a range of primary and secondary sources can tell us about this fascinating period in history.
As well as our history topic, we’ve got a whole host of engaging and challenging experiences to look forward to this term, which will include the marking of Remembrance Day, continuing with our Spanish lessons, completing the Bikeability course and learning to play brass instruments in our music lessons.
We’ll be working hard to become more independent and resilient learners who relish a challenge and learn from our mistakes.
This half term the children will have PE on Monday and Tuesday. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, children will be required to leave their PE kit in school for the full half term. Please put the kit in a labelled plastic bag. We have Music on Tuesday and Spanish on Wednesday.
It is really important that you read with your child as often as possible. Reading books will be sent home and must be returned to school each day in the plastic wallet provided. Please complete the reading record diary to show your child has read their book and is ready for a new one.
For this half term, homework will be set via Seesaw on Wednesday and will include spellings and Maths. Homework needs to be completed by the following Monday.
Please bring a refillable water bottle to school every day.
If you have any concerns or information you want to share with us, please send a message on Seesaw or Dojo and we will reply as soon as possible.
