Welcome to our Year 5 class page!
We hope you've all had a lovely half term break - we’re delighted to be welcoming our children back to school for the second part of our Autumn term and we have an exciting and busy few weeks planned. Mrs Fernandez will continue to teach Year 5 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons and Miss Jarman will be teaching the class on Wednesdays, Thursday mornings and Fridays. Mrs Radley will also be supporting our learning throughout the week and Mr Hanson will continue to complete his teaching placement with us.
Our Year 5 learning journey will begin this term with an expedition to South America and an exploration of the Amazon Rainforest. We'll discover what makes this unique ecosystem so fascinating as we research the inhabitants of the rainforest, both animal and human. We'll also investigate how our rainforests are being threatened by deforestation and consider what we can do to help. In our science lessons, we’ll be learning about Living Things and their Habitats as we investigate reproduction and life cycles; we'll also find out about the inspirational Jane Goodall and her work to protect African chimpanzees from the threat of extinction.
As well as our topic work, we’ve got a whole host of exciting experiences to look forward to this term, including our weekly music lessons, a series of Active Body, Active Mind sessions delivered by a Tameside Active Sports coach and our Spanish lessons with Mrs Chapman.
Throughout each school day, we’ll be working hard to become more independent and resilient learners who relish a challenge and learn from our mistakes.
