Year 1

Welcome to the Year 1 Class Page!

In Year 1 your child will be taught by Mrs Moorcroft and supported by Mrs Distin-Webster.

Firstly we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Year 1 and to say we are looking forward to working with you all over the next school year.

Year 1 is a busy year with lots of changes and introductions to school life that will set them up for the rest of their time at Micklehurst.

Your children will be introduced to new playtime and school routines. These will be explained to your children, however if you have any questions and queries, please do not hesitate to ask at the end of any day.

We hope you find the following information useful.

Autumn Term

P.E will be on a will be on a Tuesday with Hayley and a Thursday with the cricket coach. Please ensure your child has P.E kit and pumps on these days. (shorts, t-shirt, hoodie and pumps)

Homework will consist of Reading books, spellings, Lexia and Numbots. These will be set on Seesaw and Dojo. Both Spellings and Homework will be shared on Wednesday and need to be returned by the following Monday.

Every child will be heard to read and their reading book will be changed at least once a week. However, if your child has read at home and you have written a comment and signed their reading diary, their book will be changed the following day (or as soon as possible after that).

Please help your child to remember to bring their reading books into school everyday. Your child may not always read on the same day every week.

Teaching your child is a team effort and children benefit greatly from additional support from home. You can support your child by helping your child to complete homework, spellings and by listening to them read daily.

Just a quick reminder – Please ensure your child’s name is in all their clothing. (We have 30 cardigans/ jumpers all of a similar size.) If their name is in their clothing it can easily be returned to your child.

Snack – Your child will receive a free piece of fruit/veg, alternatively you can send your child in with a HEALTHY snack. Milk is available through the cool milk website. Information about this can be found on the website or with staff in the office.

Water – is provided throughout the day in class from jugs and cups, however if you wish for your child to have a water bottle in class (that can be refilled at our water fountain) please feel free to send a labelled plastic bottle into class. Juice is not allowed in class.

Please do not hesitate to speak to us if you have any worries concerns or problems so we can work together to resolve any issues.
