Year 1

Welcome to the Year 1 class page!

In Year 1, your child will be taught by Mrs Moorcroft and supported by Mrs Distin-Webster. This year, we will also have Miss Abie and Miss Eve joining us.

Firstly, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Year 1. We are looking forward to working with both you and your children during the next school year.

Year 1 is a busy year, with lots of changes and new experiences that will help prepare your child for the rest of their time at Micklehurst.

Your children will be introduced to new playtime and snack-time routines. These will be explained to the children; however, if you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to ask us at the end of the school day.

There are a couple of changes for you to be aware of, including the arrangements for coming into school in the morning. Your child will enter school through the same door that they used in Reception. At the end of the day, your child will leave through the Hall Door, which you can see in the middle of the trees, next to the Reception pick-up point.

Autumn Term

P.E.

P.E. will take place on a Tuesday with our Tameside Sports Coach, Mason.

Please ensure that your child has their P.E. kit (shorts, T-shirt, hoodie and pumps) in school on these days.

Homework

Homework will consist of reading books, Lexia and Numbots.

Lexia and Numbots are online resources that will help to support your child with their reading and maths. At least 20 minutes of Lexia and Numbots is required each week. Login details can be found in the back of your child’s reading diary.

Children also need to read three times a week.

Rewards will be given to children who regularly complete both their reading and homework.

I can’t emphasise enough the amount of progress children can make when they regularly complete their homework and reading. Year 1 children do need support to do this.

Teaching your child is a team effort, and children benefit greatly from additional support at home. You can support your child by helping them to complete their homework and by listening to them read daily.

Please bring reading books to school EVERY DAY.

Snack

Your child will receive a free piece of fruit or vegetables. Alternatively, you can send your child in with a healthy snack.

Please send your child to school with a water bottle (water only, please).
