PE and Sport Premium

The primary PE Sports Premium was introduced in March 2013 to improve the provision of physical education and school sport in primary schools across England.  The funding is allocated directly to primary schools and is ring-fenced.  This means that it can only be spent on improving the provision of PE and sport and health and wellbeing in school.

From September 2026 the Department for Education has introduced revised expectations for the Primary PE and Sport Premium, with a continued focus on securing sustainable improvements in physical education, physical activity and school sport. Schools are now expected to demonstrate more clearly the impact and long-term benefits of their spending through annual reporting and accountability measures. At the same time, funding levels have reduced compared with previous years (£6,240 plus £10 per eligible pupil for schools with 17 or more eligible pupils), requiring schools to plan strategically and prioritise activities that have the greatest and most sustainable impact on pupils' participation, health, wellbeing and achievement. Funding should be used to develop staff expertise, increase opportunities for physical activity, broaden sporting experiences and promote lifelong participation in sport and exercise.

At Micklehurst All Saints CE Primary School we are very fortunate to have a multi surface games pitch, a large school field, a Forest School as well as a gardening area, tyre park, reflection area and nature area.  We make full use of these areas using our funding to buy in specialist sports coaches to provide CPD for staff and to deliver PE lessons and after school clubs for our pupils. 

Our annual sports week sees coaches from different sports and disciplines come into school to work with children introducing them to all sorts of exciting sports and activities.  We also have children trained as Play Leaders who run playtime activities for younger children and act as ambassadors for healthy living.  Every morning everyone in school participates in "Wake up Shake Up" and after lunch we have our five minute "Mindfulness Session" to prepare us all for the afternoons learning.
