Year 1

Welcome to the Year 1 class page!

In Year 1 your child will be taught by Mrs Moorcroft and supported by Mrs Distin Webster. This year we shall also have Miss Abbi and Miss Eve who will also be supporting us in class.

Firstly we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Year 1. We are looking forward to working with both you and your children during the next school year.

Year 1 is a busy year with lots of changes and introductions to school life that will set them up for the rest of their time at Micklehurst. Your children will be introduced to new playtime and snack time routines. These are explained to your children however if you have any questions and queries please to not hesitate to ask at the end of any day.

A couple of changes for you include coming into school in the morning. Your child will come into school through the same door that they came through in Reception. At the end of the day your child will leave through the Hall door which you can see in the middle of the trees next to Receptions pick up point.

Autumn Term

P.E

P.E will be on a Tuesday with our Sports Coach.

Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit (shorts, t-shirt, hoodie and pumps) on these days.

Homework

Homework will consist of Reading books, Lexia and Numbots. Lexia and Numbots are online resources that will help to support your child with their reading and maths skills.

At least 20 minutes of Lexia and Numbots is required each week. Login details can be found in the back of your child’s reading diary.

Children also need to read 3 times a week.

Rewards will be given to children who regularly complete both reading and homework.

I can’t emphasis enough the amount of progress children make who regularly complete their homework and reading. Year 1 children do need support to do this.

Teaching your child is a team effort and children benefit greatly from additional support from home. You can support your child by helping them to complete homework and by listening to them read daily. Please bring  reading books to school EVERYDAY.

Snack – Your child will receive a free piece of fruit/veg. Alternatively you can send your child in with a healthy snack. Please send your child to school with a water bottle (WATER ONLY).

Please do not hesitate to speak to us if you have any worries concerns or problems so we can work together to resolve any issues

Please see our curriculum overview to find out the things we are learning about during Autumn 1.
